Out of the blue, mysterious things happen in the mansion and Anne claims that there is a boy named Viktor that visits them. Grace unsuccessfully seeks out the intruders until the day she has a revelation about the house and its intruders.

When it is finally revealed that they are all dead, the children ask the mother, "if this isn't purgatory and this isn't heaven, then where is this? But they didn't commit suicide. Nobody goes to heaven in this film. Also, if "suicide prevents you from going to heaven," why would the children also be in "purgatory?
